Heat shield

Today I worked on heat shield lab wit gabby and Unity. We had five different shields for our space ship. The times were, 22 sec., 9sec, 1:05min, 1:17min, and our longest was 1:22min. I think we were very efficient and we did finish everything. This has to do with mission to mars because we need to know how much heat our space ship can withtake and how long it will last through that heat.

Measuring Sound

Today I worked with Cece on the lab called measuring sound or something like that. We noticed that the more times the wire was rapped against the nail the hotter the nail got and the more negative mt. We did not get to the second part and I did not get the first part which is what made this lab really frustrating. I also do not know what this had to do to mission to mars.

Impact Craters Lab

Today Sam and I worked on the Impact Craters Lab. I fell like we worked really and got really far because we got to the point where you are supposed to draw conclusion. The conclusion I drew was that the higher you dropped the ball from the deeper the crater. We did keep the mass and the gravity the same. The higher you drop something from the more gravitational potential energy it has and when it drops Kinetic energy helps determine how big the crater is and that is what we notices. I am not sure what this has to do with mission to mars.

Moters

Today Honore, Jackie, and i worked on the lab called Moters. First we cut wire, then spireled it around a piece of straw, atached it to a battery and watched nothing happen. So basically we finished eercise one, but the results were non excitant. I think we were all kind of distracted though. I dont know what this has to do with mission to mars.

Mini Culmination part 2

so on Friday we did another mini culmination and we had two labs before that to prepare. I thought my group did better and the communication was defiantly better, you could defiantly tell the difference. Clara and Alice were gone this time, but we knew in advance that they would be so we prepared for that. This time Maddy and I ended up working on the launcher together. I think we did very good working together, we worked together last time to but i say we did even better this time. overall, i think everybody was positive and helped make things go better the second time.

Mini Culmination

Today i worked on the box that em's rover will be caring, then i helped Kathryn with the Alice's part which was shooting things across the room. I think my group needs to know how things work by Thursday or we will be in a big runt. we were missing 2 people today, but finally had Taryn who was working with Maddy, or not really working, but goofing off, today it was another not very commutative day and i think it has been a good lesson learning about the people who get work done and the people who like to goof off and distract me the most.

Mini Culmination

today i ended up trying to work on Emma sparrows project, so this was my 3rd switch, and we spent so much time trying to find her things that we only had ten minutes time to experiment and fix it. our over all group communication is that there really isn't any so i think our group will be a total wig it type thing and see if it works if we dont get some real communication happing by tmmorrow.

Mini Culmination

Today I continued to for the first part of class work on the mars rover, but since the whole class was working on and every time I was ready to use a rover they were all in use or downloading some program, it was frustrating. About half way through I switched with Em and started helping Louisa build the robot. And then things started going more smoothly.

mini culmination

today i got even more confused and was not being helped no matter how much i asked friends. My questions are why are we doing this and why is everybody doing there own thing even when team members ask for help. Today i got a little bit further in the activity that i said i would do. which was nice. I hope to get further and to get a better understanding of what we're doing

Start of mini culmination

Today by the time we started we only had ten minutes and by the time we had five minutes to blog I had done nothing and was very confused. so for tomorrow I will start to do the part that I was assigned to do. As soon as I figure out how to do it. We did meat though and we did assigned people to do something.

This is my 1rst commercial, what do you think

Thrust Structure

Today Maddy and I worked together on thrust structure and Katherine was gone so it was just us which worked well. The lab was about making a box out of Popsicle sticks/skewers. There was a bottle that would rest on it and when you dropped the sandbag on one end the bottle shot up. That is how newtons 3rd law was applied. I think this has to do with mission to mars because when you launch from the earth you need more force on the side that's going up then on the side that is pushing against it.

Lego robotx

So today I worked with rose and Lilly and felt very frustrated. We worked on the lab called lego robotx, we started by making the formula to control and tell the robot what to do, we did get it to work for the first challenge but didn't get to any other challenge. I think this has to do with mission to mars because if we need to pick something up like a rock sample which is what it was in this case. we need to know how to program a robot like in this picture.

Remote Repairs

So I am writing this as I do this lab because my group has completly forgot I am no matter how many times I try to ask them for help they just keep communicating between each other. My prtners just happen to be Maddy and Mediera. So this whole lab was about puting pieces from like a robot back together. I think this has to do with missio to mars because we might need to know how to put things back together and we might be communicating the same wat we are right now which is by skype where we have headphones on, cant see each other, are trying to give directiones, and are just talking at the computer. 9 minutes later 6 minutes tell class is over and i still dont know how to put my pieces togther. So we ended up getting all confused and i belive pieces got put into the worngs bag and this ws not at all a succsefull piece.

Launching to the moon

Today I worked with Maddy and Anja on the lab called launching to the moon. At first we took a balloon and taped it to the straw on the string, we let the air out and it went straight up. We spent 734,000 and had 3,966,000 left over. Newtons 3rd law applies because when you let the air out the balloon will go the other way. I think this has to do with m2m because we will have to get to mars some way a rocket might just work.

Motion Detactor

Today I worked with Rose and Honore on the motion detector, i think we were all tired so we didn't finish and we didn't do our best. The whole thing was a little confusing to me. At first we did 35a which was just an experiment we noticed that when you walk slow the graph went up way slower and when you ran it went up really quickly. 35b and 35c were trying to amtch a graph they already gave you, which was hard, but i got preatty close. we didnt really get to the point of 35d and the littel that we did do was so confusing that i really just need to check in about it. Now I really dont know what the point of this exersise was so i will make sure to check in on monday.

Moved to the moon, sport

So if I was to move to the moon and try to play soft ball I think there would be somethings difficult about it. Say i was paying pitcher depending on how far and hard I throw the ball I might go back which would be newtons 3 law. Since things are lighter on the moon I might throw it really hard and not notice. The ball would also take longer to get to the batter, because there is less gravity moving it. The acceleration due to gravity on the moon is 1.6m/s^2, on earth it is 9.8m/s^2.. If i was playing batter I might swing really hard but the ball might not go as far.

Robotx

Today I worked with Gabby and Honore to make a robot. First we added wheels and then arms and motors and then drove it. We made it pick up a film canister with the arms. I think this had to do with newtons 3rd law because depending on what wheels we turned on it would turn one way of the other. If we turned on a left wheel in front and a right wheel in back the robot would not move. I think that since we have our mission to mars, robots help collect information. I am not completely sure

Recovery System

Today I worked with Kathryn and Em on the lab called Recovery Systems. We were supposed to make a parachute. First we cut a big plastic bag. with the top part we made a parachute with the bottom we made a different kind. Kathryn made a rectangular small kind. Em made a big dome like one. The big one didn't work to well and the small one worked a Little better, but we didn't get enough time to finish testing it. Our other idea that we didn't get to test was making one that was two layers. That way the extra air would be caught, and since it was going to fast would be slowed down so it would stay in the air better and would have a smother landing. I think that newtons 3rd law applies to how when we started using the hair dryer they contradicted. The air was supposed to help keep it in the air, but the parachute kept falling. I have no idea what this has to do with mission to mars, but I am sure I will be able to figure it out latter.

Bernoulli's law

The assignment was to make an example of Bernoulli's law:

I made an air plane wing. I folded a piece of paper and put a straw through it. Then I taped it to the paper on both side. Thirdly I put a string through it and blew on top. The low pressure was on the flat bottom side, the high pressure was when I blew on top. the wing was supposed to go up which it did. So it worked great
